Turning Points
Today’s post concerns turning points. Turning points are critical in human history. In our previous posts, we have discussed dark personality leaders. They often cause many turning points in history and in wars. Dark triad leaders often are surprised and taken down by turning points. They just don’t see them.
Turning points in wars
In the last few days we have seen several turning points in the Russian Ukraine war. On June 1st, Ukraine destroyed 33-34% of the Russian air force heavy bombers with cheap drones and a very well planned attack. Just for reference, the British in WW2 considered the Battle of Britain won when they had taken out 10% of the German Air Force Bombers.

Then on June 3rd, they took out the structural support of the Kerch Bridge. These are turning points in this war. The destruction of the bombers is like the Battle of Midway. In this battle the Japanese lost four aircraft carriers with crews and planes. While the war dragged on for four more years, great harm was done in this battle.
Turning points in Politics
In the last year we saw several turning points in America. One was the Biden vs Trump debate. This was a minor turning point that continues to cause issues now. In this debate, we saw Joe was not the man he use to be. This lead to the loss in the election of the democrats.
Another turning point in American history was the murder of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963. This began the downhill slide of trust in the American system. While we don’t know all the names and people involved. We now have many fair guesses as to who they were. Listen to Soledad O’Brien and Rob Reiner‘s podcast. The same with the 9/11/2001 attack on America, we don’t know the whole story. By the way, war is good only for those who run the defense industry and profit from wars. That is an other topic for another day.
Regular events
It can be difficult to tell the importance of a regular events vs a turning point events. The key is future impact of the event. Like the Battle of Midway, it was just an event but it had major future impacts on the war. What was lost was the control of the Pacific War Theater. The Biden vs Trump debate had the impact of many people feeling they lost choice. Vice President Harris was not a strong candidate based on her record in previous United States elections. She had dropped out before in 2020. Many people felt like they did not have a choice in democratic primaries.
In a Democracy Choice Matters
Many voters felt like Biden messed up the process. Harris made many strategic mistakes. These mistakes caused a lack of confidence. Enough said on this topic.
Now to the Point
From our teams previous post you know we are against Putin and the current policies of the current American administration. We are coming up on several possible turning points. Will the events in the Ukraine Russian war will be critical turning points in the war? This is not known yet. Also a concern are the American protests planed on June 12. Will these protest define the future much like the Kent State Protests did? Many of us have watched the second season of Andor. In this season a protest lead to a massacre. We hope this will not happen in America.

However, yesterday 12 peaceful protestors in Boulder Colorado were attacked with fire! The people injured in the Pearl Street attack suffered burns. Their injuries, some serious and some minor were caused by being set on fire using a flame thrower and gasoline in what are called Molotov cocktails. Not Good.
How Does History and Historians Spots Turning Points
There are at least five ways turning points are spotted in history when we look back at events.
- What changes took place caused by the event?
- Who caused the event?
- Where did it take place?
- What are the factors on how the event happened?
- When did the event cause a change in power or mind set of the population?
If this sounds familiar, this is excellent journalism and history.
